Fresno State Alone At The Top ... For Now
Following a busy week of softball that saw most teams play six Conference games, Fresno State sits atop the MW standings with a 12-6 record with just two weeks remaining in the 2014 regular season. Three teams, San Diego State, Colorado State and Boise State, all sit a game back at 11-7. The Bulldogs host the Rams in a thee-game series starting on Friday, while the Aztecs travel to San Jose to face the Spartans. Boise State plays host to New Mexico.
Aztecs Lead Way In RPI Rankings
Six Mountain West teams are in the top-100 in the latest NCAA RPI rankings. San Diego State leads the way at No. 45, followed by Fresno State (No. 57), Colorado State (No. 79), Boise State (No. 82), San José State (No. 85) and UNLV (No. 86). Rounding out the RPI rankings for MW teams are Nevada (No. 149), Utah State (No. 169) and New Mexico (No. 170).
Bulldogs To Honor Former Coach
Former Fresno State head coach Margie Wright will be honored on Saturday, May 3, as the Bulldogs’ home field, Bulldog Diamond, will be re-named the Margie Wright Diamond. Wright coached the Bulldogs for 27 years (1986-2012), is the NCAA’s all-time winningest coach in Division I with 1,294 victories. She guided Fresno State to 10 NCAA Women’s College World Series appearances, including a national championship in 1998. Under Wright’s guidance, her teams won 17 Conference titles.
