Mountain West Softball Weekly Release
Aztecs Wins Third Straight Conference Title
San Diego State won its third straight Mountain West Softball Championship on May 10, thanks in part to its three-game sweep of Boise State to end the regular season. The Aztecs (39-17, 16-8 MW) also needed a bit of help to clinch the title outright, and got it from Nevada, who took two of three games from Fresno State (who owned a head-to-head tiebreaker over San Diego State). The Bulldogs finished (31-21, 15-9), one game back of San Diego State and tied with UNLV (26-28, 15-9) for second-place in the league. Boise State (30-22, 14-10) ended the year in fourth-place, two games behind San Diego State.
San Diego State Headed To Tempe
The Aztecs found out their destination for the 2014 NCAA Softball Championship on May 11 as the bracket was announced live on ESPNU. San Diego State will head to Tempe, Arizona to play in a four-team regional, hosted by 4/4 Arizona State. Dartmouth and 13/13 Michigan comprise the remainder of the double-elimination regional, which gets underway on Friday. All games will be televised on ESPNU. San Diego State opens with Michigan on Friday, with a 1:30 p.m. MT start. The winner takes on the winner of Dartmouth-Arizona State, while the losers of the first two games will square off in an elimination game.
