Aztecs Keep On Rolling

With a 17-3 record in its last 20 games, San Diego State not only sits atop the Mountain West standings with a 5-1 record in Conference play, but sports a 28-9 overall record. The Aztecs, who are receiving votes in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll, swept Nevada to claim sole possession of first-place in the league standings. The Aztecs outscored the Wolf Pack 17-2 in the three-game series. Up next for San Diego State is a road trip to Fresno to play the Bulldogs (21-13, 6-3 MW) in a three-game set.

Fresno State Reaches 20-Run Mark Again

For the second time in three weeks, Fresno State scored at least 20 runs in a single game. After putting up 24 runs against Boise State on March 22, the Bulldogs tacked 20 runs up on the scoreboard at New Mexico on April 6. The 20-0, five-inning victory gave the Bulldogs the series win over the Lobos splitting the first two games. New Mexico won the opener 11-9 in eight innings, while Fresno State took game two 9-0.

Five teams rank in the top-100 of the latest RPI rankings released on April 7. San Diego State leads the way at No. 36, followed by Fresno State (59), San José State (67), Colorado State (83) and UNLV (91) ... Colorado State ranks 20th in the nation in runs per game at 6.26 ... Boise State is eighth in the country in stolen bases per game at 1.97. The Broncos have swiped 71 bags this year on 86 attempts (.826) ... With 12 triples on the year, Fresno State ranks No. 10 in triples per game at 0.35 ... San José State’s Jessie Hufstetler owns the nation’s 11th-best batting average. The sophomore infielder is hitting .466 on the season. Her .591 on-base percentage is the fourth-best in the nation ... Nevada’s Megan Sweet leads the nation in doubles per game at 0.46. Sweet has hit 17 doubles in 37 games for the Wolf Pack ... San Diego State’s Patrice Jackson’s 12 home runs this season ranks No. 8 in the nation. Jackson, who leads the country in walks per game (1.19), also ranks No. 6 in sluging percentage (.892) and on-base percentage (.582), while teammate Sydnee Cable is No. 8 in OBP at .563 ... Colorado State’s Chelsea O’Connor has driven in 41 runs this season, an average of 1.32 per game. That is the eighth-highest average in the nation ... Fresno State’s Taylor Langdon has recorded four saves this season, just one shy of the nation’s top mark this year ... San Diego State’s Danielle O’Toole is 20-4 on the season. The 20 victories is tied for third-best in the nation.
