Bulldogs Bite Back Against Ranked Teams
Fresno State pitchers Jill Compton and Kiley Shae Aldridge gave a total of seven hits over two games as the Bulldogs took down then-No. 6 Washington and No. 14 Nebraska by matching 1-0 scores at the Judi Garmin Classic in Fullerton, Calif. Aldridge was making her first start in nearly two years following a knee injury. She held the Lady Volunteers, who entered the game with a .358 batting average, to just three hits. She struck out nine against three walks. Compton needed just 88 pitches to notch her second shuout of the 2014 season. She limited the Cornhuskers to four hits, while recording four strikeouts against just one walk. By virute of the two wins over ranked teams, Fresno State received two votes in the latest USA Today/NFCA Poll.
Aztecs Are Rolling
San Diego State, fresh off a perfect 5-0 run through the Wichita State Tourney, has surged into the top spot in the league standings with a 16-7 record. The Aztecs last tasted defeat on March 3 versus Lehigh. They return home for six games this week as they host the San Diego State Classic II. The San Diego State Classic I two weeks ago had a majority of its games canceled due to rain.
