What A Week For Weis
Nevada sophomore outfielder Amanda Weis put on an impressive display of hitting at last week’s Easton Red Desert Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. Weis tied the Conference record for most home runs in a single game with three against BYU, and in the same game, established a new MW mark for total bases with 14. In addition, Weis drove in seven runs and finished the game with four hits as the Wolf Pack won 20-10. Weis’ home run, RBI and total bases numbers are all new school records.
Aztecs Win Campbell/Cartier Classic Title
San Diego State claimed the 2014 Campbell/Cartier Classic title with a 3-2, 8-inning victory over St. Mary’s (Calif.) on Feb. 16. It is the second Campbell/Cartier Classic championship for the Aztecs, and first since 2008. At 8-2, San Diego State is off to its best 10-game start since 2008, and third-best start in school history.
Bulldogs Defend Turf
Fresno State went a perfect 5-0 at its home-opening Fresno State Kick-Off Tournament. The Bulldogs, 8-2 on the season, outscored their opponents 27-7, including a pair of shutouts. Fresno State is 23-3 at home under head coach Trisha Ford.
Mountain West teams combined to score 196 runs in the 38 games played last week, an average of 5.16 per game. Nevada led the way with its 20-run performance against BYU on Feb. 15 ... Fresno State President Dr. Joseph I. Castro threw out the first pitch prior to the Bulldogs’ game against CSU Bakersfield ... Colorado State’s 7-3 start is its best in six seasons.
