Mountain West Announces Men's & Women's Tennis Players Of The Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Nevada senior Victor Ouvrard has been named Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while San Diego State senior Laura Antonana Iriarte earned MW Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honors for matches played March 5-11. It is the third MW weekly accolade for Iriarte this season, and first for Ouvrard.

MEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
VICTOR OUVRARD, NEVADA
Senior, Tours, France/Lycee Jean D’Albret

  • Went a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles play to help guide Nevada past Montana 5-2 on March 7 and a 6-1 victory against Grand Canyon on March 9.
  • Playing in the No. 1 singles slot, Ouvrard won both of his matches in straight sets to remain undefeated in the spring season. He took down Mikolaj Caruk of Montana, 6-4, 6-1 Nicolas Moulin of Grand Canyon, 7-6 (11-9), 6-0.
  • Partnered with Robert Allan at No. 1 doubles, where they won both matches to improve to 10-0 on the season.

 

WOMEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
LAURA ANTONANA IRIARTE, SAN DIEGO STATE
Senior, San Sebastian, Spain/Colegio Eskibel Ikastetzea

  • Upset No. 26 Anett Schutting of California in three sets during last week’s dual match in Berkeley, Calif.
  • The 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 victory propelled Iriarte from No. 54 to No. 37 in the latest ITA national rankings.
  • Iriarte earned one of the two San Diego State points on the afternoon, as they dropped the dual match 5-2.
