New Mexico Men & Women Selected As Favorites To Win 2014 MW Cross Country Titles

 

Colorado Springs, Colo. – The New Mexico men’s and women’s cross country teams were selected to win the 2014 Mountain West titles, respectively, in a vote by the league’s head coaches. The Lobo women have won six consecutive MW Cross Country Championships, while the men have won five straight.

In the men’s poll, New Mexico received seven first-place votes and 49 total points, followed by Colorado State, who received one first-place vote and collected 40 points. Air Force and Boise State tied for third with 35 points, followed by Wyoming with 23 points. Utah State (22 points), Fresno State (13 points) and San José State (7 points) round out the men’s poll.

The New Mexico women’s team collected 7 first-place votes for a total of 97 points to capture the top spot. Boise State (four first-place votes) was selected to finish second with 92 points. Colorado State earned 82 points for third place in the poll. With 63 points, Wyoming claims fourth place, followed by Utah State (61 points), Air Force (58 points), Nevada (54 points), Fresno State (41 points), and San Diego State (25 points). San José State (18 points) and UNLV (17 points) rounded out the poll, finishing 10th and 11th, respectively.

The 2014 cross country season begins on Friday, Aug. 29. The 2014 Mountain West Championships will be hosted by Fresno State at Woodward Park in Fresno, California on Friday, Oct. 31.
