Mike Waller Joins Mountain West Staff

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Mountain West Commissioner Craig Thompson has announced the hiring of Mike Waller as Senior Associate Commissioner – Chief Financial Officer.

Waller brings over 24 years of progressive experience in collegiate athletics administration into his position with the Mountain West. In his new role, Waller will oversee all of the MW's budgeting, financial and human resources activities, as well as yet-to-be-determined duties in other areas. He will begin his duties with the MW on August 19.

Waller comes to the Mountain West from the Boise State University athletics department, where he has served in various capacities since 1989. He began his Boise State career as the assistant women's volleyball coach, a position he held for nine years until stepping in as the interim head coach for the final two months of the 1998 season. In the final year of his coaching duties, Waller also took on an administrative role within the Broncos' athletics department, serving as associate director of athletics and chief financial officer. During his 12-year tenure as CFO, Waller oversaw a budget growth of $25 million while assisting with the construction, expansion and renovation process of more than 10 athletic facilities. In addition to his financial responsibilities, Waller served as an Associate Athletic Director for Administration for two years. During his tenure, Waller has supervised contracts and negotiations for equipment, apparel, football travel and Bowl games as well as supervised multiple programs, sports and NCAA events. Waller has served on multiple University committees such as Professional Staff Salary Administrative Program, Human Resources Grievance Review Board, University Food Service Contract and Campus Recreation Advisory Board.

A native of Jefferson City, Mo., Waller graduated from the University of Central Missouri in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education.
