Three MW Student-Athletes Named to 2014 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American Team
TUCSON, Ariz. – Three Mountain West student-athletes were named to the 2014 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American baseball team by Collegiate Baseball newspaper. Outfielders Trenton Brooks of Nevada, Tyler Jones of Air Force and Danny Collier of New Mexico earned the accolades for their performances this past season.
Brooks, a second-team All-Mountain West selection, finished the season as the top hitter for the Wolf Pack with a .330 batting average. The native of Alpine, California, scored 23 runs and drove in 35, while posting eight doubles and three home runs. Brooks also made 16 appearances on the mound, including five starts. He recorded a 3.86 earned run average and a 3-1 record in 28 innings of work. The rookie walked 16 batters and struck out 20.
Jones led the Falcons this past season with a batting average of .338. He scored 30 runs and drove in a team-best 31. The second-team All-Mountain West selection from Coppell, Texas, led the squad with 19 doubles and two triples, and was second in home runs with four.
Collier, the 2014 Mountain West Freshman of the Year, finished the season batting .353, the seventh-highest mark in the nation by a freshman this season. The Albuquerque, New Mexico native started 33 games for the Lobos and reached base safely in all but one of those contests. He also scored 20 runs and drove in 20 in a season that he was hampered by a hamstring issue.
