San Diego State and UNLV Advance To 2014 NCAA Baseball Tournament

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Mountain West regular season co-champion UNLV and MW tournament champion San Diego State have been selected to participate in the 2014 NCAA Baseball Tournament. The Aztecs (42-19) earned the league’s automatic bid after winning the MW Baseball Championship in Las Vegas on Sunday and are making their second consecutive appearance in the NCAA postseason. The Rebels (35-23) will be making their first NCAA appearance since 2005. It is the sixth year in a row that the MW is sending multiple baseball teams to the NCAA tournament.

San Diego State is headed to the Lafayette, Louisiana Regional on May 30-June 2 as the No. 3 seed. The Aztecs take on No. 2 seed Mississippi State (37-22), an at-large selection from the Southeastern Conference. The winner will take on the winner of the game between No. 1 seed Louisiana-Lafayette (53-7), the Sun Belt Conference champion, vs. No. 4 seed Jackson State (31-23), the Southwestern Athletic Conference automatic qualifier. SDSU’s game with Mississippi State on Friday is set for 11 a.m. PT with UL Lafayette vs. JSU scheduled for 4 p.m. PT. Both games will be available on ESPN3/Watch ESPN.

No. 2 seed UNLV will face No. 3 UC Irvine (35-22) in the first round of the Corvallis, Oregon Regional on May 30-June 2. The Anteaters earned an at-large bid out of the Big West Conference. The winner of the UNLV-UCI game will face the winner of Oregon State (42-12), the Pacific-12 champion and No. 1 national seed, against No. 4 seed North Dakota State (25-24), the Summit League champion. The Rebels’ game is set for 2 p.m. PT with Oregon State vs. NDSU scheduled for 8 p.m. PT. UNLV-UCI will be broadcast on ESPN3/Watch ESPN, while OSU-NDSU will be on ESPNU.

Each of the 16 regionals features a four-team double-elimination format.  Every game of the 2014 NCAA Baseball Tournament will be broadcast on ESPN3 with select games available on ESPNU.
