Hi, all!

Kelsey Snider here, your roving MW All-Star reporter! One last update before we head home!

Yesterday, we only had one match in the morning against the Maribor team from Slovenia. We beat them in three! So then we had to wait and see if we placed 2nd or 3rd in our pool to determine whether or not we played later that day. We ended up taking 2nd!!! So we had the rest of the day off, which was spent scouting the opponents we would play in the morning, going to the town center and seeing the coliseum and shopping. Then some of us went to the sea again!

In the morning, we played a NorCal team. Most of them had just graduated high school and are about to go to college so we were playing a young team. We ended up winning in three, but they put up a good fight. Beating them meant we were in the semifinals! We had 6 hours to rest before our next match at 8 p.m. We ended up playing the same Maribor Slovenian team we had before. Except this time we lost in three. We put up a hard fight but we couldn’t gain control of the match. So we ended up playing for third place against a Midwest team.

The day of the third-place match, we had an early morning to go cliff jumping into the sea. We went with the Croatian National Team as well as the Midwest team. We all had to jump off a cliff but it didn’t matter how high. The cliff that most everyone jumped off of was about 35 feet high, which was pretty scary but doable for most. Hanah Blume (San José State) was scared to jump off it but she conquered her fear! Then Cassie House (New Mexico) decided to jump off a cliff that was probably about 50 feet high. Sounds fun and smart right? Umm probably not…but she did it and we think she hurt her tailbone in the process. I decided that I wanted to do it too but was really nervous. Then Reese Plante (Wyoming), Baylee Little (San Diego State), Julia Warren (New Mexico), and Sam Willoughby (Nevada) decided they wanted to go too! It took really no thought or convincing and they all did it. All the while I was still deciding on whether or not to jump. It took me probably 30 minutes of convincing with the help of all the others to get me to jump and I finally did! It was sooooo scary though that I would never do it again!

After the cliff-jumping, Reese, Cassie, Baylee, and I went to a cave to do some exploring and there was one part where you could go under water through a tunnel and end up on the other side of the cave, but you could get cut on the rocks during the process. Again, another smart decision right? Umm again probably not, but we all did it anyways we all got some scrapes but I got a long cut on my finger…Whoops! (Don’t tell Coach!!)

After all of that fun, we had to get ready for our last match in two hours. Marlee, Cassie and I were hurting from the cliff jumps. Cassie’s tailbone hurt really bad, Marlee had a big white spot on her bottom that we are not sure what it is and my entire right butt cheek and hamstring were black and blue. Oh, well! As long as we had fun in the process, right?

When we actually got to the match, we didn’t start off all that strong and didn’t play our best but we pulled it off and took third place!!!! We all were really excited about that! Then we went and showered off to watch the championship match between the Slovenian team, and the Croatian National Team. The Slovenian team won. The closing ceremonies were after that and they gave out medals and we got our third place medal, which was really exciting!!!!

When the All-Tournament team was announced, I was on it so that made me happy. I know I couldn’t have received the honor without the amazing team I had with me. Then we all went and hung out together to end off the night.

On our final day, we went back to Venice, Italy to get some sight seeing in and some shopping. It was a really cool area! I liked it a lot. It felt like you were in a maze with all these different ways to get to the same place! We walked around and were very tired at the end of the day so getting into bed and showering felt so good!

It was crazy to think that we left so soon (July 19). It felt like we had been there for so long, but the trip went by fast!

Thanks for everyone’s support during this amazing experience! We’ll see you in the Fall!
