New Mexico Men And Women Hold Top Spots In Midseason Coaches' Polls

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – In the second Mountain West midseason coaches’ polls, the New Mexico men’s and women’s cross country teams earned the top spots. The Lobo women, ranked No. 7 in the latest USTFCCCA national poll, have won five consecutive MW Cross Country Championships, while the men have won four straight.

In the men’s poll, No. 25 New Mexico received three first-place votes and 43 total points, followed by No. 19 Boise State and No. 15 Colorado State, who tied for second place with 42 points apiece. The Broncos received three first-place votes, while the Rams earned two. Air Force is fourth with 33 points, followed by Utah State (22 points), Wyoming (20 points), Fresno State (16 points) and San José State (8 points).

On the women’s side, New Mexico tallied nine first-place votes for a total of 99 points to earn the top spot. Boise State garnered two first-place votes and 91 points to claim second place. Air Force and Colorado State each earned 73 points to tie for third, followed by Utah State with 61 points. Nevada (56 points) finished in sixth, followed by Wyoming (48 points) in seventh. Fresno State (42 points), San Diego State (26 points), UNLV (21 points) and San José State (15 points) concluded the poll results.

The 2013 Mountain West Cross Country Championships will be hosted by the Air Force Academy at the Eisenhower Blue Course on Friday, Nov. 1.
