New Mexico Men And Women Hold Top Spots In Midseason Coaches' Polls
The Mountain West released today its midseason coaches’ polls in men’s and women’s cross country and the New Mexico men’s and women’s teams have earned the top spots. The Lobo women, who are currently ranked No. 1 in the nation according to the USTFCCCA, have won seven consecutive MW Cross Country Championships, while the men have won six straight.
On the women’s side, New Mexico collected 10 first-place votes for a total of 100 points to capture top honors. Boise State received the remaining first-place vote and 91 points to finish in second. Colorado State claims the third spot with 77 points, followed by Wyoming, which finished fourth with 71 points. Air Force (58 points) and Nevada (57 points) place fifth and sixth, respectively. Utah State collected 54 points for seventh, while Fresno State is eighth with 30 points. San José State (27 points), San Diego State (20 points) and UNLV (20 points) rounded out the poll results.
In the men’s poll, New Mexico received five first-place votes and 47 total points. Colorado State collected three first-place votes and 44 points to claim second. Boise State is third with 35 points, followed by Air Force in fourth place with 33 points. Wyoming (24 points), Utah State (19 points), San José State (13 points) and Fresno State (nine points) concluded the men’s poll.
The 2015 Mountain West Cross Country Championships will be hosted by the University of Nevada at Montrêux Golf Club in Reno, Nevada on Friday, Oct. 30.
