New Mexico To Represent Mountain West at NCAA Baseball Tournament

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Mountain West tournament champion New Mexico earned the league’s automatic bid to participate in the NCAA Baseball Tournament for the fifth time in the last seven years. The Lobos (38-21) won the MW Baseball Championship in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Saturday and are making their sixth overall appearance in the NCAA postseason. It is the fifth trip to the national tournament for the Lobos under head coach Ray Birmingham.

New Mexico is headed to the Lubbock, Texas Regional on June 3-6 as the No. 3 seed. The Lobos take on No. 2 seed Dallas Baptist (41-17), the champion of the Missouri Valley Conference. The UNM-DBU winner will take on the winner of the game between host and No. 1 seed Texas Tech (41-16), the Big 12 Conference regular season champion and an at-large qualifier, vs. No. 4 seed Fairfield (32-24), the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference automatic qualifier. UNM’s game with Dallas Baptist on Friday is set for 6 p.m. CT with Texas Tech vs. Fairfield scheduled for 2 p.m. CT. Both games will be available on ESPN3/Watch ESPN.

Each of the 16 regionals features a four-team double-elimination format. Every game of the 2016 NCAA Baseball Tournament will be broadcast on ESPN3 with select games available on ESPNU and other ESPN networks.
