No. 5 Colorado College Upends No. 4 Wyoming in MW Quarterfinals

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Fifth-seeded Colorado College defeated No. 4 seed Wyoming, 1-0, in the quarterfinal round of the Mountain West Women’s Soccer Championship on Wednesday morning at SDSU Sports Deck. The game was a makeup from Tuesday’s lightning-shortened contest.

Clara Richter scored off a Sarah Schweiss pass in the 16th minute and the Tiger defense made it stand for the balance of the morning. The goal was Richter’s fourth of the season and the assist was Schweiss’ third of 2015.

Despite the goal, the first half was evenly played as both teams attempted three shots and had a pair of corner kicks. The second half, however, was tilted slightly toward Colorado College (9-11-1) as it outshot the Cowgirls, 5-2.

At the final horn, the Tigers finished with an 8-5 advantage in shots, but were even in shots on goal at 4-4. Wyoming (10-6-4) attempted one more corner kick than Colorado College over the course of the game (3-2).

The Tigers move on to the semifinal round on Thursday against the tournament host and top-seeded San Diego State. The game at SDSU Sports Deck is scheduled for a 7 p.m. PT start and will stream live on the Mountain West Network.
