TULSA, Okla. --- The University of New Mexico doubles team of Hayden Sabatka and Bart Van Leijsen dropped a tense 6-4, 6-4 decision to East Tennessee State's David Biosca and Rogerio Eiberio in the opening round of the NCAA Doubles draw, officially ending the 2015-16 season for men's tennis.
Sabatka and Van Leijsen, who were named First Team All-Mountain West, finished the season 24-12, with a quarterfinal appearance at the ITA All-American Championships and a semifinal appearance at the USTA/ITA National Indoors.
"That was a tough match for Hayden and Bart," said head coach Bart Scott.  "ETSU served a little better, they returned a little better and most importantly they used the wind better."
While the season ends on a slightly disappointing note, the loss doesn't diminish what the paid accomplished in 2015-16, and with both returning next year, it bodes well for the immediate future of Lobo Tennis.
"Hayden and Bart have had an incredible year playing doubles together, and they should be very proud.  They will be a highly ranked returning team next season, and they will be a force to be reckoned with."
The match stayed on serve through the first eight games, but in game nine with UNM serving all square at 4-4, ETSU broke and then held serve for a 6-4 win.  The second set was amazingly enough identical, staying even at 4-4 before ETSU broke UNM's serve and then served out the match for the win.
