Seeding Set For 2014 Mountain West Women's Soccer Championship


COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The field is set for the 2014 Mountain West Women’s Soccer Championship, which gets underway Tuesday, Nov. 4 at the San Diego State Sports Deck, hosted by San Diego State University.

The six-team, single-elimination tournament, which runs through Saturday, Nov. 8, will feature all five matches live and for free on the Mountain West Network. San Diego State, which clinched its third straight regular-season championship, is the two-time defending tournament champion and enters the 2014 MW Championship as the No. 1 seed. The Aztecs finished regular-season Conference play with a 9-2-0 record (14-4-1 overall) to capture the top spot. Wyoming is the No. 2 seed, thanks to an 8-3-0 record in league matches. The Cowgirls (10-8-1 overall) and Aztecs each receive byes into Thursday’s semifinal round.

New Mexico (7-2-2, 9-5-2) earned the No. 3 seed with a 2-1 win over San Diego State on Oct. 31, while MW newcomer Colorado College (7-3-1, 11-5-3) garners the fourth seed. Utah State (6-4-1, 10-7-2) is the No. 5 seed, while Boise State (6-5-0, 9-8-3) earned the sixth and final seed, thanks to winning its last four matches.

In Tuesday’s first round, No. 6 seed Boise State plays No. 3 New Mexico at 4 p.m. PT / 5 p.m. MT, while in the second first round match, No. 5 seed Utah State takes on No. 4 Colorado College at 7 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. MT. The winner of Tuesday’s first match will play Wyoming at 4 p.m. PT / 5 p.m. MT on Nov. 6 in the first of two semifinal matches, while either Utah State or Colorado College takes on San Diego State at 7 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. MT on Nov. 6.

The 2014 MW Women’s Soccer Tournament concludes on Saturday, Nov. 8 with the championship match, scheduled for a 7 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. MT start time.
