Wyoming Cowgirls Drop Lobos 130-69

Jan. 25, 2013

LARAMIE, Wyo. - The Lobos were handed a heavy loss earlier this evening as they dropped their contest against the University of Wyoming 130-69. Junior distance swimmer Monica Dudley was the only Lobo to claim first place after finishing first in the 500 yard free with a time of 5:10.76.

From the beginning, the Cowgirls were hot. Wyoming took the first two events of the meet, the 400 yard medley relay and 1,000 yard freestyle and never looked back. The Lobos found themselves in an early hole that they unfortunately couldn't swim their way out of. The medley relay team of Marissa Campbell, Lindsey Morris, Jorgi Hobson and Heidi Zeiger finished second with a time of 3:53.18. In the 1,000 yard free, Dudley was third, clocking a time of 10:45.74.

The 50 yard freestyle was perhaps one of the closest races of the meet. Emily Ridout of Wyoming was first with a time of 24.09, Melanie McDonough was second with a final time of 24.29 and coming in third was New Mexico's Shayla King who swam the distance in 24.39.

Hobson and Campbell had another strong swim in them. Campbell finished second in 100 yard free with a time of 53.19 while Hobson touched the wall in 2:11.30 for second place in the 200 yard butterfly.

Morris also claimed another second place finish for the Cherry and Silver after she swam the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:27.65.

New Mexico closed the meet with Campbell, King, Hobson and Heidi Zeiger taking second in the 400 yard free relay.

UNM makes the quick turnaround as they travel to Greeley, Colo. and face the Bears tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. MT.
