All-American Bid Falls Short
March 23, 2012
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. (UNLVRebels.com) -
UNLV junior Cody Roberts missed by just .07 seconds a third consecutive All-American finish in the 100 fly on Friday on the second day of action at the 2012 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, held at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center. The three-day meet concludes on Saturday, but this was UNLV's last swim of the meet.
Roberts posted a time of 46.99 in the morning preliminaries. That put him in a tie for 19th place with John Wojciehowski of Michigan. The top 16 swimmers advance to the night scoring heats, and 16th place was 46.92, recorded by Stanford's Geoffrey Cheah. The past two years, Roberts had finished 14th as a sophomore and 15th his freshman season at the NCAA Championships in the 100 fly.
After two days, California leads the team standings with 379.5 points.
