Rebels Win Three Of Four In Tri-Meet

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving team competed in a tri-meet with Utah and the University of Calgary on Saturday afternoon at Buchanan Natatorium. The Rebels defeated the Utah men 149-146 to improve to 3-1 on the year, while in what would count as an exhibition contest, posted a 176-107 win over Calgary. UNLV's women's squad (1-4) dropped to Utah 167-128, but topped Calgary with a 159-128 exhibition score.

Five different Rebels won individual events on the men's side. Matt Roe won the 1000 free in 9:34.71, freshman Henrique Machado claimed the 100 back in 49.70 and Balint Batka won a close race in the 200 fly in 1:49.36. Cody Roberts led a 1-2 finish in the 100 fly with a winning time of 48.94, while Batka was second in the event, and Giacomo Gremizzi won the 200 IM by .09 (1:50.70). The Rebels won the first relay of the day, the 400 medley with a time of 3:17.76. Machado, David Szele, Roberts and Samuel Lameynardie made up that winning relay squad.

UNLV won two events on the women's side, beginning with Mariah Skeen's winning score of 284.55 on the 3-meter board in the first event. The Rebels also won the final event, as Carmen Robb, Julia Fehervari, Rachel Dixon and Hilary Ego teamed up to win the 200 free relay in a time of 1:33.99. Earning second-place finishes on the day were: Jessica Heim (1000 free), Robb (100 back, 100 fly), Ego (50 free), Skeen (1-meter), Dixon (100 free), and Wong (200 back).

The next action for the teams will be the Arizona Diving Invitational on Nov. 16-18, and the Mizzou Invite on Nov. 29-Dec. 1 in Columbia, Mo.
