Another Strong Day in the Books for Divers at Wildcat Invitational
Nov. 17, 2012
TUCSON, Ariz. - Another day in the books for Abel Sanchez and his squad of divers at the 5th annual saw them have another good day competing some of the best divers in the southwest.
The 1 meter springboard event was held today and it saw two Lobos advance to the championship round. Michole Timm and Megan Harper both placed in the top eight in the preliminary round and moved on to finals where Timm placed fourth with a score of 286.55 and Harper was seventh with a final tally of 272.00. Stephanie Phipps of Stanford University took first with a score of 304.70.
"Again, the girls did a really good job diving," said Diving Coach Abel Sanchez. "Today was a tougher day because unlike in the 3 meter dive where you can really see differences between divers and how good they are, the 1 meter is really the equalizer. Everyone can be a good diver off the 1 meter board."
Senior Aubrey Bush placed first in the consolation round with a final score of 270.70 which put her in ninth place overall.
"Michole was good and consistent for us, as she always is, and Megan did some good stuff as well. For Aubrey this was one of the best 1 meter performances she's ever had, they all did some good stuff and I'm happy."
The final day of competition is tomorrow with the platform dive taking place. Timm and Harper will be participating in the event.
