March 1, 2012
INDIANAPOLIS – TCU junior Sabine Rasch is headed to the NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship, it was announced Wednesday evening.
Rasch is the first TCU woman to qualify for the NCAA Championship since 1996 when Sarah Crawford was selected for the platform dive and Maggie Topolski went to the meet in the individual medley.
The 2012 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship are March 15-17 inside the James Martin Aquatics Center on the campus of Auburn.
The Luckenwalde, Germany, native qualified for the Championship via her performance at last week’s Mountain West Swimming and Diving Championships. In the 100-free final, Rasch clocked a 48.70, which is the best mark in TCU history and 19th-fastest in the NCAA for 2012.
Rasch is also an NCAA invitee in the 50-free, where she ranks 34th with a 22.54 and the 200-free, where she is 56th in 1:47.99. Both of those times are TCU records. If an athlete qualifies in one or more event, she is eligible to be invited in other events that she has an NCAA “B” qualification standard.
The 50-free is scheduled for March 15, the 200-free is March 16 and the 100-free is March 17. Events begin with time trials at noon each day and conclude with the finals portion of the competition at 8 p.m.
