Nine MW Swimmers & Divers Earn Honorable Mention All-America at 2012 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships

AUBURN, Ala. - The Mountain West earned a record nine All-American performances at the 2012 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center in Auburn, Ala., last week. Three swimmers, one relay team and two divers finished among the top-16 in six events to be named honorable mention All-American.

UNLV's Rachel Dixon placed 15th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.58 to become the first Rebel in four years to earn All-America recognition on Thursday, March 15. Dixon was joined by teammate Katelyne Herrington on Friday with a 14th-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 52.60. Wyoming's Kelsey Conci became the third MW honorable mention All-American swimmer on Friday with a ninth-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke at a time of 52.13.

The Boise State 200-yard freestyle relay team of Amber Boucher, Stevie Hughey, Sydney Johansen and Stephanie North swam a time of 1:30.77 to place 16th in the event.

Ashlee Erickson of New Mexico and San Diego State's Kristen Meier bumped the list up to five with their performances in diving. Erickson placed 16th in the 1-meter springboard event, while Meier placed 14th in the platform dive.

Overall, five Mountain West teams scored points at the NCAA Championships, the largest group to do so since the league began in 1999-2000. Wyoming led the way with nine points, followed by UNLV with five. San Diego State picked up three points, Boise State had two and New Mexico had one.
