Lobo swimming signs two to National Letters of Intent

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - University of New Mexico swimming and diving head coach Tracy Ljone announced the signing of Kristin Walker and Lauren Tininenko to national letters of intent.

Walker and Tininenko will be joining Ally Davis, who signed during the early signing period, as coach Ljone's 2012 signing class.

Walker will be graduating from Air Academy High School this year. She placed 2nd in the 100 Breast at the Colorado High School 4A State Championships this year and was also a Colorado Springs 4A Metro League Champion in 100 Breast in 2011 and 2012.

Kristin Walker currently owns the Air Academy School Records in 100 Yard Breaststroke, 200 Yard Individual Medley and 200 Yard Medley Relay. Was voted Air Academy Most Valuable Athlete in 2010 and 2012 and selected Colorado Springs All-Area First Team this year. Walker was also team captain for the 2011-2012 season.

The Colorado Springs, Colo., native swam for coach Scott Newell and Mike Stromberg for the Falfins Swim Club Team. In addition to her swimming honors she is also a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and Principal's Honor Roll. She was also an Academic All-State selection from 2009-2012.

Tininenko comes to New Mexico from Bentonville, Ark., the same town as former Lobo Tonya Gramstad. She is a junior National qualifier in the 50 free and 100 back as well as an Arkansas High School State Champion in the 100 back- 2010, 2011, and 2012- and the 100 fly (2012). She was runner-up in the 100 free in 2010 and 2011.

In addition to her many championships, Tininenko currently owns the Bentonville High School records in the 100 back and 200 free. This accomplished swimmer also excels in the classroom; a member of the National Honor Society, she expected to graduate with high honors and was a named to the Honor Roll all throughout high school. In 2010 and 2011 Tininenko was also named a Scholastic All-American.

Tininenko swam for Coach Steve Duwel for both Bentonville High School and the Northwest Arkansas Aquatics swim club.

Davis, who signed with Ljone back in November of 2011, will be swimming in the freestyle events for New Mexico. Davis, originally from Ottawa, Canada is a Canadian Senior National Level swimmer who qualified for the 2012 Olympic trials; she swam for the Nepean Kanata Barracudas for Coach Scott Faithfull.
