Lobo Swimming signs Atlanta native to NLI

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - University of New Mexico swimming assistant coach Crystal Forbes announced the signing of Shayla King to a national letter of intent.
King will be joining Ally Davis, Kristin Walker and Lauren Tininenko as the swim teams' 2012 signing class.
King is a 2012 graduate of Mount Vernon Presbytarian School in Atlanta, Ga. Along with being a national athlete representative for USA Swimming; King is also a Georgia Jr. and Sr. State Athlete Representative. She is a Jr. National qualifier, 5 year Sectional qualifier and finalist and the winner of 11Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) State Titles- the most recent coming as a senior when she won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke state titles.
She is also GISA state record holder, in the 100-yard free, and a 2 time female athlete of the year in high school. King was the recipient of the Joel Ferrel award in AAU swimming and she was her high schools team captain.
King's high school coach was Sabir Muhammad and she also swam for the City of Atlanta Dolphins Club Team for Coach Tommy Jackson.
"We are so excited to welcome Shayla to our Lobo family," said assistant coach Crystal Forbes. "Shayla has the talent to make an immediate impact on our team next year. I look forward to coaching her to continue her sprint freestyle development."
Diving coach Abel Sanchez signed diver Courtney Brooks in May to bring the total number of incoming freshman joining the Lobo swimming and diving team to five.
