For the first time in recent memory, the Rebels' season will start in the month of September, with the women's team traveling down to San Diego to face San Diego State on Sept. 29. Both the men's and women's teams will then host a run of three straight meets over consecutive weekends, beginning with a tri-meet with Pac-12 power Arizona and Denver on Oct. 27. Following that will be reunions with former Mountain West members, with a Nov. 3 contest against BYU, and a Nov. 10 meet against Utah Utes. That Nov. 10 date will also see UNLV swim the University of Calgary.
A series of invitationals dominate the November and December schedules. The diving corp will go to Tucson for the University of Arizona Diving Invitational on Nov. 16-18, while selected swimmers will make the trip to Austin for the University of Texas Invitational, held Nov. 29-Dec. 1. The Rebels close out the 2012 calendar year with the UNLV Winter Invitational, held in Buchanan Natatorium on Dec. 15-17.
UNLV comes back from the Christmas break with a trip to California and a meet at Cal State Bakersfield on Jan. 5. Following a home competition against UCSB on Jan. 19, the teams will split up, with the divers participating in the Air Force Diving Invitational on Jan. 25-26. On those same dates, the Rebel men will host back-to-back dual meets against the Air Force men's squad. The final meet of the regular season will be a combined home contest against Wyoming on Feb. 2.
The Rebel men will be in their second year of membership in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, and will swim in the 2013 MPSF Championships on Feb. 20-23 in Long Beach, Calif., while on the same dates, the Rebel women will be in Oklahoma City, Okla., at the 2013 Mountain West Championships. This year's women's NCAA Championships will be held on March 21-23, while the men's will be on March 28-30, with both championships taking place in Indianapolis, Ind., at the IU Natatorium.
UNLV returns the majority of a men's squad that spent most of the 2011-12 season in the top 25, while the women bring back a pair of honorable mention All-Americans from last year's NCAA Championships.
