Oct. 10, 2012

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State junior Mikaela Macklin and New Mexico senior Aubrey Bush have earned Mountain West Women's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week honors, respectively, for meets contested from Sept. 21-Oct. 7, 2012. It is the fourth Mountain West career honor for Bush and the first for Macklin.

Macklin, a native of Placerville, Calif., won the overall title in the season-opening pentathlon against University of San Diego with a combined five-event time of 4:53.06. She placed second in the 100-yard freestyle (52.04), 100-yard backstroke (58:29), 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.99) and 100-yard individual medley (58.83). Macklin posted a third-place time of 57.91 in the 100-yard butterfly. She followed up the pentathlon with a strong performance in an SDSU dual-meet win against UNLV with three individual wins and a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay (1:46.07). Macklin won the 200-yard butterfly (2:07.07), 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.82) and 200-yard individual medley (2:05.34).

Bush won the 3-meter springboard (327.15) and placed third in the 1-meter springboard (279.15) as the Lobos beat Air Force to open the season. Both marks qualify the Eaglecrest, Colo., native for NCAA Zones in March 2013. Her 3-meter score was 3.75 points off the UNM record already set by Bush in 2010. It was her first time back in the competition pool after sitting out last season with concussion symptoms.
