Track & Field Recap: Rams excel on first day of Air Force Invitational

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado State senior Josh McMillin put his many talents on display Thursday, taking the first day lead in the men’s heptathlon at the 23rd Air Force Invitational. McMillin registered 2,867 points on the day, including a dominant performance in the shot put portion of the heptathlon.
Sophomore Justin Green showed his potential by jumping into second place overall on the first day of competition. He had the best high jump out of any of the competitors, and sits at 2,848 points going into the second day of competition. Fellow Ram Josh Cogdill holds sixth place after the first day.
The women’s heptathlon also wrapped up on Thursday, with Colorado State freshman Monica Franco taking seventh place. Franco had a strong showing in the 800 meter run, and finished with 3,245 points. Freshman Jessica Green tallied 3,139 points for ninth place and senior Cate Brus scored 3,037 points for 12th place. Freshman Jessi Macedo finished in 14th place with 2,885 points.
The men’s heptathlon will finish on Friday with the 60 meter hurdles, pole vault, and 1,000 meter run. Those events will begin at 9 a.m. MT, followed by the start of full team competition at 12:30 p.m. MT.
