Rebels Score Eight Top-Eight Finishes

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) - A trio of Rebels placed between third and sixth overall in the women's pentathlon at the Mountain T's Invitational on Friday in Flagstaff, Ariz. Overall, eight UNLV track & field athletes finished eighth or higher in the three events the Scarlet & Gray entered on the day one of the meet held inside Northern Arizona's Walkup Skydome.

Taylar Mills paced the Rebels in the pentathlon with a third-place finish and a total of 3,323 points. Mills won the shot put with a personal-best throw of 39-1 (11.91m) prior to runner-up showings in the high jump (5-1/1.55m) and 800m (2:35.11 PB). She was fourth in the 60m hurdles (9.39) and sixth in the long jump (16-0.50/4.89m).

Ayana Gales and Juliet Summers finished fifth (2,907 points) and sixth (2,846), respectively. Gales had her best finishes in the high jump (5-1/1.55 - second place) and long jump (17-4.75/5.30m - third). Summers, on the other hand, placed fifth in three events: 60m hurdles (9.72), long jump (16-1.75/4.92m) and 800m (2:43.10).

In the open section of the shot put, Myshauna Alexander, Carine Owens and Cortney Miller finished between fifth and eighth. Alexander tossed a measurement of 36-6.75 (11.14), while Owens (35-5.25/10.80) was sixth and Miller (34-3.50/10.45m) was eighth.

Uchechi Anunkor placed third overall in the open section of the long jump with her best leap measuring 16-7.75 (5.07m).

Saturday's action begins for the women at 9:00 am with the invitational shot put and long jump, while the mile run commences on the track at noon.
