Honeycutt, Blok Enchanted With Finishes In N.M.

ALBUQUERQUE (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels had a strong showing at the Don Kirby Open held at the Albuquerque Convention Center by the New Mexico Lobos on Saturday afternoon. UNLV registered 11 top-six finishes, including a win in the 800m by Corey Honeycutt and two runner-up showings from Emily Blok in the 60m and 200m.

Honeycutt won her race in a personal-best time of 2:14.52 while Blok's 23.89 in the 200m was three-tenths of a second faster than her posted time (23.92) in Friday night's Don Kirby Elite Invitational.

Also in the 800m, Laura Affeld took home third with a time of 2:15.05. Auzsane Crowe-Carter and Monay Meggs were fifth and sixth in the 400m (56.27) and mile (5:18.47), respectively. Erin Morris ran the 60m hurdles in 8.54

In the 4x400m relay, the quartet ("B") of Miranda Menzies, Honeycutt, Jordan Hardy and Courtney Allen ran 3:53.36, which was good enough for third. The foursome of Kelsey Williamson, Secoral Yanez, Uchechi Anunkor and Affeld was sixth (3:59.02).

Off the track, Myra Dean was fourth in the high jump (5-5/1.65m) and Myshauna Alexander finished in the same position in the weight throw (48-11.50/14.92m).

The Rebels have next weekend off before returning to action on Feb. 21-23 for the Mountain West Indoor Championships in Nampa, Idaho.
