Mills Places Seventh In MW Pentathlon

NAMPA, Idaho (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field team sits in fifth place after the first day of the 2013 Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships in Nampa, Idaho. Taylar Mills finished seventh overall in the pentathlon to earn two points for UNLV on Thursday at the three-day meet hosted by Boise State at the Jacksons Indoor.
Mills finished the event comprised of five different disciplines with a total of 3,472 points. She had her best showing in the shot put with a fifth-place finish behind a throw of 38-0.25 (11.59m). She placed eighth in the high jump (5-2.50/1.59m PB) and ninth in both the 800m (2:32.26 PB) and 60m hurdles (9.18). In the long jump, she was 13th (16-7.25/5.06m PB).
Juliet Summers also participated in the pentathlon and finished 17th overall with 3,077 points. Summers best event was the long jump, which produced a 17-3.25 (5.26m) measurement.
San Diego State leads the nine-team competition with a total of 23 points after it saw four members of score in the pentathlon. Allison Reaser (3,971) edged out teammate Nicole Odenaarden (3,969) by two points to claim her third consecutive indoor title in the event. By virtue of their finishes, SDSU got 18 points from the pair while Karsen Sper and Brittany Bozeman tacked on five more for their fifth- and eighth-place showings.
Friday's action begins at 1:00 pm with the women's high jump, the first of four field events (trials and finals). The track will be dormant until qualifying for the women's mile starts at 3:30 pm. Six other women's track events will have qualifying implications while the distance medley relay will crown a champion in the evening's final competition for the women.
