'Dogs Split Duel with Cal Poly

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State track and field team split its duel versus Cal Poly on Saturday in its first of three meets they will host this season. The men’s team was victorious 99-71, while the women’s team fell 99-88.
For the men, sophomore Chris Brusenback won the 100-meter dash and set a personal record, clocking a time of 10.62 seconds.
Junior Devin Harrison won the 200-meter dash while also setting a personal record with a time of 21.47 seconds.
Senior Justin Cutler was a winner in the shot put. Cutler’s throw of 53’-4.25” was a personal record, besting his previous top throw of 51’-6.73” from 2012.
Senior Brice Sandri had a stellar day as he won the discus throw and set four personal records. Sandri won the discus throw with a 167’-06” toss while also setting a new personal record. His other three PR’s came in the shot put (49’-8.50”), hammer throw (150’-5”) and javelin throw (121’-2”).
On the women’ side, senior Breeauna Thompson won the 100m and 200m races. Thompson clocked a time of 12.03 seconds in the 100 and 24.40 seconds in the 200.
Freshman Annemarie Schwanz was a winner in the 1500m, crossing the finish line at 4:33.16.
Junior Carina Mendoza set a personal record in the 3,000m at 9:56.04 at the dual, ousting her previous best time of 10:24.58 set last year. As a freshman her best time was 11:00.12.
Freshman Kyra Johnson won 100m hurdles with a time of 14.93 seconds. She also took first-place in the 400m hurdles crossing the finish line at 1:03.01.
Junior transfer Nicole Uikilifi made her mark on her new Bulldog team by winning the discus throw (150’-0”) and the hammer throw (166’-4”).
Next week the 'Dogs will visit San Luis Obispo for the Cal Poly Inviational on Saturday.
NCAA Indoor Championships Update
Sophomore Je’Nia Sears finished 15th at the NCAA Indoor Championships in the women’s long jump. Her best mark of the competition was 19’-0.75”.
