Hammer Throwers Kick Off Outdoor Season

TEMPE, Ariz. - Backed by five career-best marks in the hammer throw, nine members of the Air Force track and field team kicked off the outdoor season this afternoon (March 23) at the Arizona State Invitational in Tempe.
In the only event of the day, senior Sean Herbison improved his personal distance by 12 feet to finish 10th overall - and seventh among collegiate athletes - in the men's hammer throw with a distance of 182'0". Junior Brian Ford (169'8", 13th) and sophomore Jalen Fooster (164'10", 16th) also recorded career-best distances, while senior James Cole finished 22nd with a toss of 128'2".
On the women's side, senior Paige Blackburn placed 12th with a toss of 168'8", while sophomore Becca Bauman finished 19th with a career-best mark of 151'4". With that throw, Bauman improved her 10th-place standing on the Academy's all-time list. Junior Katy Moorkamp also recorded a career-best mark, tossing 145'4" to finish 20th, while sophomore Jackie Ahloo and freshman Danielle Tabb made their hammer throw debuts with respective 23rd- (126'6") and 24th-place (116'0") finishes.
The rest of the Air Force squad begins competition tomorrow (March 24) at the Arizona State Invitational. Action begins with the women's discus throw at 11 a.m., while the Falcons' first running event is slated for 5:30 p.m., with the women's 100-meter hurdles.
