Multiple Athletes Earn Top Marks, Personal Bests at Fum McGraw

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Wyoming track and field team had several athletes improve their personal-best marks and achieve top marks Saturday afternoon at the Fum McGraw Quadrangular in Fort Collins, Colo.
Senior Mollie Dahl earned UW's fourth-best all-time distance in the shot put with a 49'-7" for first place, while freshman Sabina Sandberg placed seventh in the high jump with a 5'-6.50," UW's seventh best all-time height for the event. Freshman Kereston Thomas earned UW's eighth best all-time mark in the 100-meter dash with an 11.92, good for first place at the meet.
On the men's side, senior Joe Plante earned a 199'-5" in the hammer throw for first place at the meet, which is UW's ninth best all-time distance in the event and currently ranked 23rd in the nation. Senior Mark Sparks placed third in the hammer throw at a personal-best 192'-4," which is ranked No. 41 in the country.
"I was pleased with today's performances by our team," said Wyoming coach Bryan Berryhill. "It was great to see a lot of them earn personal bests and improve their times or marks from last weekend. We're not all the way there yet, but for where we are in the season we are progressing well and gaining momentum."
Senior Lenyn Leonce came in first in the long jump at a distance of 23'-6.75," while Stephen Michel placed third at 22'-5.75." Henry Ferreira finished first in the javelin throw at 198'-7," while senior Brandon Douglass paced the hurdlers with a third-place time of 14.52 in the 110-meter hurdles. Nick Ekel led the distance runners in the 5,000-meter with a third-place time of 14:58.92.
For the Cowgirls, senior Abi Bever placed first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:37.33 and Andrea Klimowski pursued close behind in second place at 12:02.36. In the 400-meter hurdles, senior Diana Long finished second in 1:01.13with Taylor Gardner arriving in third in 1:01.71. Thomas also had a solid 200-meter dash, finishing in second in 24.41 seconds.
Wyoming next travels to Colorado Springs, Colo., for the Air Force Combined Events Thursday through Saturday, April 4-6.
