March 31, 2012
AUSTIN, Texas - The TCU track and field program finished strong in windy conditions on the final day of the 85th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays Saturday.
Senior Whitney Gipson returned to the runway for the first time since claiming the NCAA indoor long jump title on March 9, leaping a wind-aided mark of 21-10 ¾ feet (6.67m) to finish third overall. The North Richland Hills, Texas native hit her top jump on her third attempt.
Junior sprinter Charles Silmon also stood out for TCU Saturday, using the gusty conditions to run 10.15 second in the men’s 100-meter invitational. The Waco, Texas product claimed fourth-place honors as one of only two collegiate entries in a field of 17 runners. Former Frog Mychal Dungey finished 12th overall.
Silmon later returned to the oval to team up with senior OJ Stoneham, sophomore Lavon Collins and senior Mark Barnes to run a seasonal-best 39.59 seconds for seventh-place recognition in the 4x100 relay.
Other TCU highlights from Saturday’s action include the women’s distance medley relay team of junior Tricia Terry, junior Quinterra Charles, sophomore Briyanni Thomas and senior Kelly Dawson working together to run 11:34.24 for seventh place. Junior Kelsey Samuels also earned seven-place distinction in the women’s shot put.
The Frogs return to action Saturday for the final day of action in Austin.
