Falcons Lead after First Day of Combined Events Meet

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Junior Lesly Torres (heptathlon) and freshman Evan McDowell (decathlon) lead their respective events after the first day of competition at the Air Force Combined Events Meet at the Academy's Cadet Outdoor Track and Field Complex.
Torres amassed 3,562 points during the first three events of the heptathlon on Thursday, April 5. The junior opened the day with a time of 14.99 in the 100-meter hurdles, before jumping a season-best 5'5¼" in the high jump to win that event. She also recorded a distance of 30'9" to finish second in the shot put, before closing out the day with a third-place time of 25.96 in the 200-meter dash.
In his first decathlon, McDowell amassed a total of 3,562 points to lead the field by 10 points. He opened the day with a season-opening time of 11.30 to finish second in the 100-meter dash, before recording a long jump distance of 21'2". He added a shot put throw of 34'3½" and a second-place high jump clearance of 6'4", while closing out the day with a winning time of 49.72 in the 400-meter dash.
Sophomore Jamie Hart is fourth in the heptathlon with 2,472 points, while senior Phaelen French is in sixth with 2,365 points. Hart recorded first-day marks of 15.81 (100-meter hurdles), 4'11½" (high jump), 26'8½" (shot put) and 27.21 (200-meter dash), while French tallied marks of 17.06 (100-meter hurdles), 4'11½" (high jump), 30'5½" (shot put) and 27.62 (200-meter dash).
The multi-event meet concludes tomorrow (Friday, April 6) with the final five events for the men and the final three events for the women. Action begins at 11 a.m., at the Cadet Outdoor Track and Field Complex.
