Air Force Concludes Action at Combined Events Meet

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Senior Phaelen French recorded the ninth-best heptathlon total in Academy history, as three members of the track and field team wrapped up competition at the Air Force Combined Events Meet on Friday, April 6, at the Academy's Cadet Outdoor Track and Field Complex.
French led a pair of Falcons during the final three events of the heptathlon, placing third with a career-high 3,989 points - the ninth-best total in Academy history. French opened the day with a third-place distance of 16'1" in the long jump, before adding a fourth-place mark of 85'0" in the javelin. The senior closed out the day with a winning time of 2:30.08 in the 800-meter run - bettering the field by 16 seconds.
Sophomore Jamie Hart placed fifth with 3,629 points, behind marks in the long jump (14'11 ½"), javelin throw (87'5") and 800-meter run (3:07.07).
Competing in his first collegiate decathlon, sophomore Evan McDowell amassed 6,233 points to finish second. He recorded his best finish of the day in the 1500-meter run, winning that event with a time of 4:53.29. He also finished second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.42, before picked up fourth-place marks in the discus throw (90'5"), pole vault (11'7¾") and javelin throw (112'5").
Wyoming's Brandon Douglass won the decathlon with 6,457 points, while teammate Katy Hall took first in the heptathlon with 4,065 points.
The Falcons return to action tomorrow (April 7), when they host the first Air Force Relays at the Cadet Outdoor Track and Field Complex. In addition, several members of the Falcons' middle distance and distance team are competing at the prestigious Stanford Invitational this weekend.
