Rebels Notch Impressive Performances

April 16, 2012

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field program hosted its third installment of the Randall Cunningham Invitational this past Friday, April 13 and Saturday, April 14 at Myron Partridge Stadium and Sheila Tarr-Smith Field. Saturday's action saw Amanda Bingson set a new stadium record in the hammer throw, while Myshauna Alexander registered the third-best performance mark in the javelin.

Bingson, who set the stadium record a year ago on March 4 in the UNLV Track Classic with a toss of 219-2 (66.81m), recorded a throw of 228-10 (69.75m) for a new standard. This weekend's effort was only two inches shy of tying her personal-best and UNLV record distance of 229-0 (69.79m).

Alexander's throw of 156-0 (47.55m) was 3.25 feet further than her best thus far in 2012, which she registered at the Texas Relays at the end of March. The improved from fourth to third overall in UNLV's performance list in the javelin.

Joining Bingson and Alexander with notable marks in the field were Zadia Bryant and Taylar Mills. Bryant had a personal-best triple jump of 38-2 (11.63m), while Mills scored 4,668 points in the heptathlon.

On the track, the Rebels had two student-athletes record personal bests. Christine Lowe and Secoral Yanez shaved at least two-tenths off both of their bests in the 400m hurdles (58.88) and 200m (24.04), respectively.

Lauren Petersen, Kelsey Williamson and the 4x100m relay squad also performed well Saturday. Petersen ran the 5000m in 18:05.51, while Williamson finished the 200m in 2:09.39. The relay quartet of Zadia Bryant, Yanez, Uchechi Anunkor and Emily Blok ran a time of 45.59.

The Rebels return to action in Walnut, Calif., at the Mt. SAC Relays that run from April 19-21.
