Rebels Finish Fourth At MW Outdoor Championships

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com - The UNLV track & field team finished fourth overall with 83 points at the 2013 Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted at Myron Partridge Stadium and Sheila Tarr-Smith Field in Las Vegas. UNLV entered Sunday with a total of 10 points off a first-place showing by Myshauna Alexander in the javelin before it raced up the standings Sunday with help from second-place finishes by the 4x100m relay team, Emily Blok in the 100m and 200m, and Monay Meggs in the 400m.
UNLV finished a mere 6.5 points behind Colorado State, who finished third overall with 89.50 points. San Diego State - winners of the 2013 indoor conference crown - claimed the outdoor title with a total of 182 points. New Mexico finished second with 145.50 points.
The Rebels came in one spot ahead of their in-state rivals, the Nevada, Reno Wolf Pack (78 points). With a higher finish in the league's outdoor meet, the Scarlet & Gray claim three more points in the Governor's Series presented by NV Energy. Currently, UNLV owns a 21-point advantage (31.5 to 10.5) in the head-to-head standings.
Fresno State was sixth (68), while Boise State (66), Wyoming (56) and Air Force (51) rounded out the nine-team field.
Blok, Anunkor and Meggs were all busy running individually for the Scarlet & Gray, while also competing in the 4x100m and 4x400m relay. The trio was joined by Ashley Franklin in the 4x100m, and they clocked a time of 44.54 - the fourth best in UNLV's outdoor performance list for that event. Alva Castillo joined the threesome in the 4x400m relay, which finished third with a time of 3:42.15.
Blok came so close to winning the 100m and 200m, but fell a mere .02 seconds short in both events. She ran personal-best times in each with an 11.36 in the former race and a 23.25 in the latter one.
Anunkor ran both sprints, as well, and finished third in the 100m (11.48) and fourth in the 200m (23.72). Both of her times were personal bests.
Meggs ran to a second-place finish in the 400m (54.04 PB), while placing fifth in the 200m (23.92).
Erin Morris rounded out those that scored on the track for UNLV with her fourth-place outing in the 100m hurdles (13.71 PB).
In the field, Taylar Mills came in sixth in the triple jump with a personal-best measurement of 40-6 (12.34m). Both Adrianna Oliva and Cortney Miller finished eighth in their respective events. Oliva threw a distance of 46-11.75 (14.32 PB) in the shot put, while Miller tossed the hammer 173-11 (53.01m PB).
NOTES: Mills triple jump ranks as the fourth-best in UNLV's outdoor performance list ... Oliva's shot put improves her standing in the performance list ... Since 2006, UNLV's 4x100m relay has finished in the top three each year except in 2007 ... Blok has been a member of the 4x100m relay for three years, while Anunkor has been a two-time member ... Blok has been the runner-up in the 200m three straight years ... Blok has finished second in the 100m twice (2013 and '11) and third once (2012).
