'Dogs Fall Short on First Day of Preliminary Rounds
May 23, 2013
AUSTIN, Texas - Of the 14 Bulldogs who qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary Round, seven 'Dogs hit the track at Mike E. Myers Stadium on Thursday to kick off the three-day weekend in Austin, Texas.
Thursday did not provide the outcome the 'Dogs were seeking as none of the seven in action were able to qualify for the quarterfinals in the track events or the finals of the field events. On the track side, the top three to five times in each heat, depending on the event, added with the next four to six best times qualified for the quaterfinals in Austin for day two or three. The field events gave competitors three throws. The top-16 throws or jumps received three more attempts and the best 12 qualified for the championship finals in Eugene, Ore. on June 5-8.
Day two will feature three more Bulldogs in first-round action. AnaManu Folau starts the day with the discus at 10 a.m., while Breeauna Thompson and Cameron Parker both take a shot at qualifying for the 200-meter quarterfinals at 6 p.m. and 6:25 p.m on Friday. All times are pacific.
