June 6, 2012
DES MOINES, Iowa - Rebel senior Brett Zorich finished 13th overall in the semifinals of the 800m run on the first day of the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa at Drake University's Drake Stadium. Zorich's time of 2:04.54 ranks as the second-best on UNLV's outdoor performance list for the event.
"Brett has had an amazing season and to finish off the way she did was an awesome accomplishment," said head coach Yvonne Wade. "Coach (Khadevis) Robinson has done a terrific job with Brett and we are very proud of her."
Zorich one-upped herself in all three races over the past two weeks of NCAA competition. At the NCAA West Preliminary, in Austin, she ran a 2:07.64 in the first round and a 2:05.39 in the quarterfinals.
Amanda Bingson, UNLV's second qualifier for the national meet, will compete in the hammer throw trials on Thursday afternoon (3:00 pm CT/1:00 pm PT). Bingson enters this year's competition as the top seed after throwing an NCAA meet record (233-1/71.04m) two weeks ago at the NCAA West Preliminary. This will be her second appearance in as many years at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Des Moines. In 2011, she finished fourth overall and earned All-American honors.
