June 24, 2012

BIRMINGHAM, UK - Freshman Lorraine Ugen earned runner-up accolades in the women’s long jump Sunday at the 2012 Aviva Olympic Trials.

Ugen, a freshman from London, soared 22 feet, 1 ½ inches to earn second-place honors. Ugen’s leap is exactly one centimetre shy of the Olympic ‘A’ standard, which means she will have a week to try and solidify her spot for the 2012 Olympic Summer Games. The  Olympic ‘A’ standard is 22 feet, 1 ¾ inches.

In other action Sunday, junior Charles Silmon placed 12th overall in the men’s semifinals at the United States Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore. Silmon clocked a time of 10.26 seconds to finish fifth in heat No. 3, but just missed making the finals.

Action will continue in Eugene tomorrow with former Frog great Khadevis Robinson competing in the finals of the men’s 800 meters.
