Jan. 29, 2013
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Wyoming junior Mason Finley and New Mexico senior Josephine Moultrie have earned Mountain West Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors for meets contested from Jan. 24-27. It is the first MW weekly honor for both Finley and Moultrie.
Finley, a native of Buena Vista, Colo., took first place in the shot put at the Air Force Invitational on Jan. 25 with a throw of 65'-9.75''. The throw ranks first in the MW by more than six feet, and second in the nation. The distance also set a new Wyoming school record, breaking Jason Gervais' mark of 64'-7.00'' from the 2000 season. A transfer from Kansas, Finley is an eight-time All-American and four-time NCAA runner-up (twice in the shot put and discus) and four-time Big 12 champion. He also competed in the weight throw and finished second with a distance of 61'-0.75''.
Moultrie, from Glasgow, Scotland, finished fifth overall - third among collegiate runners - in the 3,000-meter run at the University of Washington Invitational on Jan. 26. Moultrie's time of 9:06.35 is the top mark in the MW, and fourth in the nation. She set a new school record, breaking Ruth Senior's mark of 9:17.09 set in the 2011 season. Moultrie currently owns the New Mexico school record in the indoor 600-meter, 800-meter, mile and 3,000-meters, and set all of those marks within the last calendar year.
