Bingson Throws Her Way To Share Of Weekly Award

Jan. 31, 2012

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV's Amanda Bingson was named the Mountain West's Co-Women's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the week following her record-setting appearance at Northern Arizona's Mountain T's Invitational last weekend in Flagstaff, Ariz. Bingson shares the weekly award with San Diego State's Whitney Ashley.

With the selection, Bingson, a senior from Las Vegas, becomes the first Rebel in program history to be named both an indoor and outdoor athlete of the week by the MW. She is the first indoor recipient at UNLV since Lekeisha Lawson was recognized on Jan. 22, 2008. Coincidentally, Bingson was the most recent Rebel to earn the outdoor weekly honor on March 22, 2011.

Bingson, who is no stranger to breaking records at UNLV, smashed the program's weight throw mark by nearly a foot and a half. Her toss of 66-6.50 surpassed the previous-best distance recorded less than a year ago by former Rebel Chelsea Cassulo at the 2011 MW Indoor Championships. Cassulo threw the weight 65-2.25, which was good enough for first place in the event.

Currently, Bingson's weight toss measurement ranks fourth best in MW history and tops this season amongst conference competitors, as well as 12th overall in the country.

Since coming to UNLV, Bingson has broken the program's hammer throw mark seven times and earned All-American status in the event after a fourth-place finish at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She has been named to a total of three all-conference teams (two outdoor and one indoor).
