Track and field recap: Heuer takes home Husker Invite title

LINCOLN, Neb.Sarah Heuer won the 5,000-meter run and the Colorado State track and field team finished Day 1 of the Husker Invite Friday at the Devaney Center.

The Junior from St. Charles, Ill., took first in the event with a time of 17 minutes, 30.26 seconds. Teammates Kendra Gerk (17:31.56) and Emily Briggs (18:15.29), followed right behind finishing in second and third, respectively.

In the men’s 5,000-meter run, Ben Larson earned a fourth-place finish, clocking in at 14:50.64.

Trevor Brown qualified for the finals of the 60-meter hurdles set for Saturday after placing fifth in 8.01 in the prelims of the event. Kelby Dias came in 14th, finishing in 8.19.

In the women’s weight throw, Kiah Hicks took fifth with a toss of 59 feet, 8.5 inches.

Bethany DeLong recorded a fourth-place finish in the long jump, with a distance of 18-06.

Competition resumes at 10:30 a.m. CST Saturday.
