Feb. 7, 2013

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field team will venture to New Mexico this Friday and Saturday after traveling to meets in neighboring Arizona two of the past three weekends. The Albuquerque Convention Center plays host to the Don Kirby Elite Invitational on Friday prior to the Don Kirby Open on Saturday. Kelsey Williamson is the lone Rebel competing on Friday (8:10 pm) in the 800m, while the rest of the squad will participate a day later.

In two previous 800m races this season, Williamson has finished first (NAU's Mountain T's Invitational) or second (UW Invitational). To open the indoor campaign, she ran in the 400m at the NAU Invitational and won it, as well. She is also a member of the 4x400m relay that will run at 3:45 pm on Saturday. In her most recent relay outing, she anchored the quartet to a first-place finish at the Mountain T's Invitational.

The Don Kirby Open gets started at 9:30 am on Saturday with the women's weight throw (Myshauna Alexander). The track portion starts up at 11:30 am with the men's 60m hurdles prelims followed by the women's 60m hurdles prelims (Juliet Summers, Erin Morris, Erin Hardy and Taylar Mills) 10 minutes later.

This weekend's action is the final tune-up before the Mountain West Indoor Championships are held in Nampa, Idaho on Feb. 21-23.
