TCU Track & Field Set For Texas A&M Invitational

FORT WORTH, Texas – The TCU track and field program will travel to compete in the Texas A&M Invitational Saturday at Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium. The meet will serve as the last meet of the indoor season prior to conference and national championship meet.
Finals begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday with competition from Alabama, Baylor, Houston, Missouri, Rice, USC, UTEP and host Texas A&M.

LAST TIME OUT: RAZORBACK INVITATIONAL (JAN. 14)
The TCU track and field program picked up a pair of wins on the final day of action at the 2012 Razorback Invitational on Jan. 28 in Fayetteville, Ark. Junior Charles Silmon picked up the 60-meter title with a finals time of 6.71 seconds.
From the infield, junior Cameron Tabor highlighted the evening for the Frogs, winning the men's weight throw with a top mark of 59-4 ¼ feet (18.09m). The winning toss came on his final attempt and reset his previous school record for the event.
SILMON HONORED BY MOUNTAIN WEST
TCU junior sprinter Charles Silmon was been selected as the Mountain West Men’s Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Jan. 31. The honor is the second for Silmon this season and the third overall for TCU.
A product of Waco, Texas, Silmon earned first-place honors in the men’s 60-meter race at last weekend’s Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., clocking a time of 6.71 to claim the individual title. The victory was the second in as many meets for Silmon, who claimed the 60-meter title at the Texas 10-Team Invitational in College Station, Texas on Jan. 14.
STATIONED IN COLLEGE STATION
Three of TCU’s four regular season indoor meets were scheduled to take place at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium in College Station. The Frogs opened the indoor slate with the Texas A&M Reveille Invitational on Dec.10 and competed in the Texas 10-Team Invitational on Jan. 14. TCU will wrap-up the indoor regular season schedule at the Texas A&M Invitational this weekend.
TCU IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Frogs have registered some of the best times and marks in the nation this season. Junior Charles Silmon posted a time in the 60 meters (6.66) that stands as the No. 10 clocking in the country. Senior Whitney Gipson currently ranks No. 9 in the nation in the women’s long jump with a top leap of 20-7 ¾ feet, while freshman long jumper Lorraine Ugen has the No. 14 mark in the nation at 20-2.5 feet.
