MW Throws Weekly Award Bingson's Way

Feb. 14, 2012

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV's Amanda Bingson was named the Mountain West's Women's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the week following her record-setting appearance at the NAU Invitational last weekend in Flagstaff, Ariz.

Bingson, a senior from Las Vegas, becomes only the second Rebel indoor track & field athlete to earn the weekly distinction more than once dating back to the league's inaugural 2000 season. Michele Davis was the first to be named an athlete of the week on multiple occasions (Feb. 8, 2000 and Jan. 22, 2002).

In two trips to Flagstaff during the 2012 indoor season, Bingson has left town with a program record in tow. This past Saturday, she had a weight throw measurement of 70-3.50 (21.42m) that shattered her previous best by more than three feet. Just three weeks ago, she broke the UNLV indoor mark with a throw of 66-6.50 at the Mountain T's Invitational also hosted by Northern Arizona.

The 70-3.50 toss ranks as the third-best in Mountain West history, and is the best to date in the league and fourth overall in the country this season.

Since coming to UNLV, Bingson has broken the program's hammer throw mark seven times and the weight throw twice. She earned All-American status in the hammer after a fourth-place finish at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She has been named to a total of three all-conference teams (two outdoor and one indoor).
