Cale Simmons Earns `Primetime Performer' Nod by CollegeSports360

Feb. 14, 2012

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. - Air Force junior Cale Simmons was named to the Primetime Performers Weekly Honor Roll by CollegeSports360.com, the national website announced today (Feb. 14). Simmons, who took over the NCAA lead in the pole vault last weekend, was one of 13 track and field athletes recognized.

With an Academy-record clearance of 18'1¼", Simmons took over the NCAA lead in the pole vault for the 2012 season during the final day of competition at the Air Force Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 11. Simmons easily won the event, while earning an automatic berth into the NCAA Indoor Championships.

His clearance, which was over a foot better than the rest of the field at the Air Force invitational, is the best clearance in the NCAA to date this season. It is also the fourth-highest vault in the U.S. for 2012, the third-best clearance in Mountain West history and the best mark in Academy history (indoor or outdoor).

His mark, which moved Simmons from sixth to first on the program's all-time list, broke Nick Frawley's 2009 Academy indoor record of 18'1".

The Primetime Performers awards have been recognized for several years on CollegeBaseball360 and CollegeSoccer360, but have just recently been opened to all sports on the new CollegeSports360. The Primetime Performers Honor Roll for the week of Feb. 6-12 featured Division I athletes from 16 spots.
