Track and field preview: Rams travel to New Mexico for MW indoor championships

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State indoor track and field team will travel to the University of New Mexico for the second time this season, to compete in the MW indoor championships beginning Thursday.

The Rams first visited the Albuquerque Convention Center Jan. 20-21, to compete in the Cherry and Silver Invite.

Trevor Brown enters the meet having set the MW all-time record in the 60-meter hurdles for the second consecutive week. He was named the MW indoor track and field Athlete of the Week Tuesday for his accomplishment. Brown will look to defend his title in the event, which he won as a freshman at the 2011 indoor championships, with a time of 7.91 seconds.

 Brown (60-meter hurdles) along with Nicole Peters (3,000-meter run) own the top time in their respective events in the Mountain West entering the championships.

CSU's men's team enters the championships ranked eighth in the Mountain region behind MW foes Air Force (fourth) and New Mexico (sixth). TCU is ranked 10th in the South Central region, while Boise State is seventh in the West region.

The CSU women are currently ranked 11th in the Mountain region behind New Mexico, which is ranked fourth. TCU enters the meet ranked seventh in the South Central region.

Competition begins Thursday at 11 a.m. MST with the men’s heptathlon.
